Cathi L., Oct 11, 2009, 10:36PM EDTHey Sheboygan, thank you for the friend request. I look forward to getting to know you. As far as the four cats, I'll have you know I am a bona fide cat linguist and have been for years, so there's no bird dinners in my house! lol You have a great night!

Barbara H., Oct 11, 2009, 8:59PM EDTHi Clifford,
I just found your ping and am so sorry I haven't answered till now. You sound very interesting too. I know about drinking although I didn't see the worst that could happen until five years ago when I was in an automobile accident. (Did not and have not had an alcoholic drink since that day almost six years now.)
I grew up with a family that believed a party wasn't a party without drinking.
When I saw your picture with you white hair and cute pose with your lady peeking over your shoulder, you reminded me of a guy i knew, (also a drinker now deceased) I wrote a post about him called The Love Letter. Sad letter that I wrote one evening when I didn't realize until I read it over before I hit (publish) that I still felt the way I did. (No I wasn't drinking (as I said haven't had a drink in almost six years) but those drinking years came rushing back for some reason and thus the post.
I'm not on any kind of meds for mood but I do take Asthma meds and excercise a lot at the Y in the water for arthritis.
Thought I'd mention the post in case you may want to give me your take on it.
Thanks Clifford I'm off to check your posts.

Shira C., Oct 10, 2009, 10:14PM EDTHi, Clifford!
Please tell me more about Jains. Honestly, I don't know much -- I believe that your founder set out to reconcile the two religious traditions that surrounded him? Have I got that wrong?
As for stories about the Buddha, there are so many, and I don't know even a little bit about how to separate the historical ones from the ahistorical. When I am uncertain, I go back to the sutta in which the Buddha was asked some question about metaphysics and said, "I don't teach that. I teach about suffering and the end of suffering." I try to be practical. If something tells me about suffering and the end of suffering, it is worth knowing. If not... it might still be interesting, but not important. Does that make sense?
